During crises

In response to natural disasters or other emergencies - fire, flood, plague, drought, or bio-terrorism - governments, volunteer associations and public and animal health practitioners provide animal relief services and rehabilitation assistance to primary producers. This includes coordinating animal welfare relief services for livestock, wildlife, companion animals and fish, as well as protecting against animal diseases that could impact agricultural productivity, trade or possibly even human health.

What is OCA?

OCA Incident Manager is an information management and crisis communications technology that helps solves two critical issues: the rapid sharing and dissemination of accurate information and the fast, economic mobilisation of resources.

OCA helps:

  • Shift from whiteboards and post-it notes to an online virtual command centre with integrated document management, contact databases, issue logging, task management and communications platform
  • Communicate quickly, easily and economically with large numbers of field-based resources, shifting them from one relief centre to another when demand dictates
  • Quickly and economically interoperate and collaborate with stakeholders such as other government departments, ministers, media and emergency service departments (e.g. rural fire departments)
  • Two-way engagement with the network of veterinary practitioners such as private vets, DPI vets, and livestock health or pest authorities in each state
  • Easily make requests for assistance and manage the related tasks and logistics
